Joseph McAskie b 1797  and Lydia Porter b 1800 of Whitehouse, Ardstraw, Co Tyrone married in 1829

They had 5 children who emigrated to Canada in 1855.
Margaret, Timothy, James,  Rebecca and Jane Ann

Records show that Joseph and Lydia emigrated from Ireland with their family -
first to
Alymer, Quebec for 1 year then Durham County, Ontario - they died in Hope Ontario

From the  Freeholders Register 1829- a William Porter lived at Ballynaloan, Ardstraw - next townland to Whitehouse

From the Freeholders Register 1829 - a Joseph McCaskie living at Creevy, Ardstraw - next townland to Whitehouse registered -
cannot see another Joseph who would fit the timescale

Timothy 1833-1895 was born in Whitehouse Ardstraw.  Timothy married on 14 Apr 1863 in Nepean Ontario - to Jane Lenard 1827-1906. Her parents were John Leonard and Eliza Hill.

Timothy and Jane settled in Carleton Co.Ontario & had 6 children there before moving to Beaver Creek, Manitoba.

Children:- Joseph - Lydia - Jane Anne - Mary Delila - Rebecca - James

 

Joseph, 1863-1945 married in 1885 - Maria Graham, daughter of Matilda Pogue who later married James (McAskie)- below  They had 12  children & farmed  all their lives in Beaver
Lydia married Elijah L Martin in 1882 - they had 11 children and lived at Swan River, Manitoba

Jane Anne married George W I West - one child died as a baby in 1900
Mary Delila  married John James Elliott from Ireland
Rebecca married Fred Cooper - they farmed at Beaver for 50 years and raised 5 children

James married Maud Gilbert

Timothy died in 1895 and Jane in 1905

James  was born in Whitehouse Ardstraw in 1836 He emigrated with Timothy and married Matilda Pogue in 1876. They moved to Beaver District in 1878. They had no children. She had previously been married to Thomas Robert Graham who died in 1865.   Matilda and her first husband had a daughter Maria 1865-1951. James died in 1899 and Matilda in 1935. They are buried at Beaver

Maria married Joseph the son of Timothy and Jane McAskie (above) - on 10 February 1885 in Beaver, Manitoba. They had 12 children:-

Joseph Edwin - William Arnold - Lydia Ioia - Mary -James Willard - Malcolm Graham - Nellie - Thomas Gordon - Hazel Georgina - Muriel Blanche - Irene - Viola Thelma Jane
William Arnold  1889-1929

( His son was James Willard McAskie born 1925. He died 12/01/2006 at Esterhazy Saskatchewan
His  granddaughter Tamie Partridge did a lot of the research on the
Canadian descendants of the McAskies of Beever Creek, Manitoba.
She would like to dedicate her contribution to this website to the memory of her beloved grandfather )

Viola Thelma Jane married John Wesley McGillvary in 1929 and I am touch with a descendant in British Columbia

Margaret 1830-1925 married John Irwin 1830-1906
Rebecca  1839-1915 married T James Irwin - they had 6 children
Jane 1849- married Robinson Dafoe
