2 Matthew married Eliza Caldwell on 07/03/1853 at Ardstraw. - witnesses were Andrew Pollock and
Thomas Smyth,
They lived at Mullaghcroy House   Descendants later changed their name to Smith.

Matthew 1827-1901 lived and farmed at Drumclamph, Ardstraw - a tenant of Earl of Abercorn estate at Baronscourt.  Eliza 1833 -1912. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Caldwell of Drumclamph and was his heiress. Their son Thomas was my grandfather.

Eliza had another unwanted suitor - he abducted her on a horse to Laght Drumquin Co.Tyrone or some say even Sixmilecross Co Tyrone (26 miles)l. Matthew went after them and  brought her back  and married her

Matthew and Eliza had 12 children:-

Rebecca Jane,  Robert James,  Thomas,  Jane,   Mary,  John, Samuel, Elizabeth Catherine, William Chesterton,  Andrew Joseph, Emily Louisa,  and George Honeyford

1901 Census:- Matthew aged 74, Eliza aged 66

Matthew had a bad chest and later on he could not work. He played the fiddle.

Eliza was a very hard worker & was up at 5am to light fires and bake bread. Later she got Rheumatoid Arthritis and was bedridden

 3 The brother who lived in Strabane was Thomas married to Margaret Ann McClelland daughter of Alexander a farmer. In 1861 she was a widow and married John Honeyford in Wesleyan Chapel, Strabane. He was a merchant and she was a draper. He was the son of Benjamin and Abigail and had a sister Frances who married Thomas Sweeney in 1846 from Sweeney and Co Egg and Butter Merchants Strabane


Glenglush Smiths:-

Robert Smith married Jane 1784-1875. He was a farmer shown in Tithe Applotment Books 1834 at Glenglush townland and in the  Abercorn rent Books for Donegal and Tyrone 1849-1857. They had 3 known children -

A Jane married Alexander Mullan, father Andrew - a druggist from Castlederg on 27 Aug 1872  - witnesses M Smith and H H Wood

B Sam Smith 1829 -1923 married 18 Aug 1891 - very late in life - to Catherine Jane Moffat bef 1870 -1930 from Scraghey - daughter of William Moffat. They were married at home at Scraghey - a Methodist service

1892 -1936 (died of blood poisoning) - his will       Admin to John Thomas - his brother. Effects £332.5s.4d
William 1893 -1984 - farmed near Brandon, Manitoba,Canada  He married Maud from London UK and had 2 daughters Kathleen and Lilian

(Jack)1896 -1978 married Mary Isobel Pollock (Maisie) Fyfin in 1935. She died 1972. They lived at Drumclamph and had 3 daughters.- all living
Samuel Moffatt 1898 -1987 In the 1920's he set off for Australia via Canada but settled instead near his brother Willie in Manitoba

David George 1900 -1976 married Bertha Auld - farmed at Killagrallen Ballinode Co. Monaghan - late 1940's bought and ran village store in Ballinode - retired to Gilford Co Armagh. Had 5 daughters and one son - a daughter lives in Vancouver
Mary Florence 1901-1958 was a nurse - married James Roulston a farmer from Ballylennon, Castlederg in 1924 - they took over the Glenglush farm. They had 3 daughters and one son
Margaret Elizabeth Isabella (Lily) 1903 -1970 married Charles Leitch Roulston (Charlie ) 1900- 1964 on 03 Jun 1931 - lived at Mountjoy, then Omagh. They had 2 boys and 1 girl - one son lives in Australia
Catherine Jane(Cissy) 1894 -1962 did not marry.

C Robert M (1830-1883) married Isabella Pollock (1821-1897) They had 9 children:-

Andrew James             Ida             Mary             Rebecca             William             Robert             Charles             Sam             Matthew

Nothing is known about   Andrew James,       William,        Charles born 1857     or        Sam born 1859

Ida married Mr William       Rebecca married Mr Hemphill

Mary married Henry Leebody, Derry draper & son of Henry, Presbyterian Minister on 28 Dec 1882.Witnesses William Smith & John Woods

Robert born 1855 and Matthew born 1865 were in America

Full Abstract:
Letters of Administration (with the Will annexed) of the personal estate of Robert Smith late of Glenglush County Tyrone Farmer who died 31 August 1883 at same place were granted at Londonderry to Isabella Smith of Glenglush the Widow and the Universal Legatee in trust.
