Henry
Lyons, born about 1770, lived in
Tattynure Cappagh Parish. He married Miss
Barnwell 1772 -1855.
Miss Barnwell had 2 sisters and a brother who was a doctor and became very wealthy. He never married and left his money to his sisters Henry Lyons and Miss Barnwell had 10 children as follows:-
The inheritance left to Henry's wife allowed him to buy farms for all his sons. They were located between ten or fifteen miles of Omagh and Newtownstewart. Many were on the banks of the Strule River. 1 James married Anne McCausland b 1808 on 07 Jul
1828 at Mountjoy Church and they lived at Farest. Summer b 1834 married John Hutchinson - emigrated to Philadelphia. James was a Methodist preacher in Ireland for 34 years before emigrating to Vancouver Canada. 2 Summer married William Scott on 26 Oct 1830 - they lived in Gortin. She was Presbyterian 3 Catherine, of Tattyure, married Robert McConnell b 1810 on 07 Nov 1834 at Tattynure. They had 6 children She was Presbyterian 4 Beattie, of Carnony, married Anne Hutchinson
on 13 Jul 1830 - they had 6 children and in
1852 the family of Beattie Lyons left for Philadelphia aboard the
Superior including James Henry 11, Anne 10, Beattie 8 and
Margaret 20 and Summer 17 daughters of James Lyons. 3 other daughters
were born there viz Mary, Kate and AN Other.

6 Henry married Martha Pollock b abt
1821 at Reaghan Cappagh on 14 Jan 1841 - they had
8 children. 7 William married 1st Martha Robinson b 1815 on
05/02/1835. at Killynure. John married Matilda Beattie from Crosh on 11 Nov 1869 - son Matthew b 21 Sep 1878 emigrated to Australia and married Matilda Margaret Johnston from Letterburn, Baronscourt on 19 Mar 1913 at Currabubbula, New South Wales. Descendants settled at Maitlend NSW Australia William married 2nd Rebecca McFarland from Whitehouse, Ardstraw on 08 Nov 1855
at Drumlegagh Church Ardstraw 8 Robert, my great great grandfather, married 1st a Miss Fulton b abt 1812 and went to live at Strawletterdallen, Ardstraw parish. Later he married my great great grandmother Anne Susan Stewart born 1821 in Manchester, on 15/01/1846 in Droit Presbyterian Church Lower Badoney. (See their story after the rest of the children of Henry Lyons and Miss Barnwell) 9 Thomas married someone b 1832 and lived in Carrickfergus
My Great Great grandparents Robert Lyons and Anne Susan Stewart - see above At the time of their marriage Anne was living at Strawletterdallen on her father's farm and Robert was farming the adjoining land. There is evidence of Robert receiving the land in 1830 Land there was farmed by the McConnell and Beattie
families. Also a William Stewart is shown there in Tithe Applotment Records in 1834 Anne Stewart was the daughter of Hamilton Stewart, a doctor who had a practice in Newtownstewart, Co Tyrone. Anne lived in Manchester until she was 3 years old.
Anne Susan Stewart spent most of her life at
Riversdale in Strawletterdallan townland where she lived with her husband. She was a strong
Methodist who read the bible every day. Descendants of this family moved about a lot -
their connections to the Methodist Church were significant - male members became ministers
and female members married ministers.

Robert and Anne had 8 children Henry, Anne Jane, Katherine, Margaret, John James, Mary Elizabeth, Robert Stewart and Rebecca Frances:- 1) Henry Lyons married Eliza Jane Beresford, from Florencecourt Co Fermanagh on 03/09/1872 - they had 4 children Beresford S, Robert, Anna Florence & Thomas Henry. Ulster Covenant Signatures 1912 Beresford married Anna Mary Kerr - he was a Methodist minister Robert was in business in Enniskillen, Anna married Mr Rosendale from Florencecourt & Thomas Henry was first a teacher , then a Church of Ireland minister 2) Anne Jane (1847-1895) - she married William Hood b about 1845 - in 20/12/1866 in Badoney Presbyterian Church - Witnesses to the marriage were Henry Lyons, her brother & James McCormack - William was a Methodist Church leader for Lisnatunny Ardstraw in 1901 - they were my great grandparents - One of their 10 children was Louisa Kathleen
Hood (1877-1952) who married Robert John Donaldson (1867-1946)
from Cloghore Ballyshannon Co Donegal on 16/07/1903 at Newtonstewart Presbyterian Church.
A Robert Lyons, probably her brother, was witness to their marriage. They were my

3) Katherine Lyons married James Frazer, a Methodist Minister in Newtownstewart on 20/03/1873 and they moved first to Ballyshannon Co Donegal then to Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan. His father was George Frazer, a County Officer from Co Cavan. Before that Katherine had been instrumental in changing the name of the home farm from Strawletterdallan to "Riversdale" - they had 2 sons and 2 daughters - Henrietta born 21/12/1875 at Ballyshannon then Eric, Ida, and Edith Eric was a banker and his son was a doctor in England Robert Lyons wrote in his day book: 4) Margaret Lyons married Robert George King on
16/12/1886 - he lived in Baillieborough Co Cavan - he had a successful business there. She died on 03 Apr 1909 and he emigrated to USA Ulster Covenant Signatures 1912 They had 6 children:- Winifred, Jack, Harry, Violet, Ethel & Ted. Jack (1905 - 1982) & Harry (1908 - 1971) both emigrated to New York and worked as managers for the Atlantic and Pacific Company (a railroad company) then retired to Florida. Harry married his cousin Anna Margaret Lyons, daughter of John James Lyons. Jack's wife was Mary and they had 2 children Maurice and William Violet married a Mr Sheedy, customs officer and they lived in S Ireland Ethel married a dentist called John ? - they lived in Glasgow. She later died in childbirth. Ted emigrated firstly to Australia, then USA, where he worked for Atlantic Pacific Co Robert Lyons wrote in his day book:-: Maggie Lyons King wedding outfit 1886
5) John James Lyons(1853 - 1944) married
Bessie McFarland - they had 4 children:- Thomas emigrated to New South Wales where he married Clarice Edna Kiss in 1927 He had 3 children. He later returned to Ireland to run the home farm. Elizabeth Mary "Maude" also emigrated to Australia where she married John Anderson on 17th May 1934 in Melbourne Victoria. He was born about 1899
6) Mary Elizabeth Lyons married Edward Knox (1849 - 1935) from Belleek, Fermanagh on 08/10/1878 Edward's sister Mary Ann Knox married Samuel Donaldson from Stranorlar in 1861. Samuel's sister Hannah married John Donaldson from Belleek in 1857 Mary's & Edward's daughter Lil married Christy Ross. They had 2 children, John & Doreen. John had a veterinary practice in Rosscor & Doreen married Fred Skuce from Cork.
7) Robert Stewart Lyons (1857-85) was deaf & dumb - he attended the Claremont Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, Monkstown, Co Dublin He wanted to enter the ministry for the deaf and was appointed by the Archbishop of Cork in 1881 for that job. In the same year he went to Washington DC, USA, to attend the 'National Deaf-Mute College' (now Gallaudet University). However he became ill with Kidney Disease and Rev. Gallaudet the principal of the college sent him home - he died shortly after his return and is buried in C of I Newtonstewart - he was 28. His funeral was one of the biggest for many years |

photos is one of Carolina HG Stewart and Anna Maria Stewart, taken on 1st July 1866 at Brookvale. Photographer's address was
Coleraine Co Derry - there is a Brookvale at Coleraine Rd
Portrush. Could these be nieces of Anne Susan Stewart?

Robert helped pay for and construct his portion of

In 1892 Robert was District Magistrate - he died in 1894
