John Fulton Hood was born about 1853, son of Samuel Hood and Margaret Fulton of Newtownstewart Co Tyrone.
 
John Fulton was 1/2 brother to my great grandfather William Hood - their father Samuel married 2 sisters.

My family converted to Methodism but John Fulton remained with Anglican Church and became a Clerk in Holy Orders.

He married Maria Christina du Plat Richardson Griffiths daughter of Thomas and Eliza (Griffiths). She was born in Farnham Surrey on 12 Sep 1862

Their 5 children 1 John Charles Fulton b 1885, 2 Basil Frederick b 1886, 3 Margaret Ethel b 1888, 4 Mary C du Plat b 1890 and 5 Alwyn Christian du Plat b 1902. 1st 3 were born in Stockport Cheshire, Mary was born in Luton, Bedfordshire and Alwyn in Loughborough Leics.

In 1891 they were living at 89 Grove Rd Leighton Buzzard Beds - John Fulton's church - All Saints Parish Church

 
and in 1901 the Census showed Christina and her 2 daughters living at same address - no sign of her husband on that day. The 2 boys were boarding at Leatherhead, Surrey  at St Johns Foundation School. Alwyn also attended the school

1 The Rev. Canon John Charles Fulton Hood 1885-1964 attended St Johns school from 1896-1902. He was awarded the Tancred Scholarship to Christ’s College Cambridge. He was ordained in 1907 and ministered at various churches,  Nottingham, Leeds, Holbeck, Garstang
From 1932 he was rector of Keighley. In 1920 he married Helen Patuffa Kennedy-Fraser, daughter of Marjory Kennedy-Fraser the
famous collector and singer of Hebridean songs, ... aided by her daughter Patuffa.
Marjory Kennedy Fraser was brought up on Scottish folk songs. As a child she accompanied her father the well-known singer David Kennedy on his tours at home and abroad, playing the piano while he sang.

From 1921 he was chaplain to the TA and in 1935 he became chaplain to the High Sheriff. In 1940. He was the Chief Chaplain to British Forces in Norway 1940 and Iceland 1940-41. He was the founder/editor of the troops newspaper in Norway/Iceland "the Midnight Sun"  He wrote several books viz  History of St Mary’s Nottingham, A Soldiers Breastplate 1939 and  Icelandic Church Saga 1946 His service record

In 1949 he was elected a Knight of the Icelandic Order of the Falcon.




He lived at Battle Lodge Battle Sussex

Elizabeth and her sister attended Keighley Girls Grammar School in mid 1930s and Elizabeth played The Sleeping Beauty. Her father was  then Rector of Keighley
 
2 Basil Frederick Hood DSO OBE 1886 -1941 - he was a Paymaster Captain and served at Gallipoli in 1915. Records in Kings College Archives refer to his organisation of the landing of water supplies for Suvla Bay, Gallipoli on 6-7 Aug 1915. He died in 1941 and is buried in Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery.
