My Gordon Brick Wall

Gordons feature a lot in my ancestry.

They originate from Donegal and Tyrone Ireland - well as far back as I can get.

I think they were all from the one family in the early 19th Century. Both parishes are close together.

Donegal Parishes East

Tyrone Parishes West

They lived in the townland of Braade, parish of Clonleigh Barony of Raphoe, PLU of Strabane - this is in the extreme east of Co Donegal where it borders with Tyrone.

They lived in the townland of Whitehouse, parish of Ardstraw Barony of Strabane Lower PLU of Castlederg - this is in the extreme west of Co Tyrone where it borders with Donegal

Clonleigh is no 9

Ardstraw is no 4

First there was David Gordon, my great great grandfather who farmed at Whitehouse.

He is mentioned in the Tithe Applotment records of 1834 at Whitehouse. Nothing more is known about him. Where did he originate from?

His daughter, my great great grandmother Betty Gordon was born about 1800. She married John McAskie about 1820. They lived at Whitehouse and raised their family there .She died on 16 August 1887, 18 years after her husband

Betty's bible has survived. In it she has written up the death of Peter Gordon, of Springhill, 21/11/1879, aged 65 so born about 1813. Not very surprisingly Springhill is in the parish of Clonleigh Co Donegal.

Was this a brother?

He was a Process server
