In the 18th Century, the McAskies came from Scotland to settle in the Derg Valley in Creevy townland. |

| 1 John 1818-1895, and his sister 2 Elizabeth went to Australia in 1841 on the Moffat
John met Catherine Haliburton-Nealings and they married in 1850 in Wesleyan Chapel York St Sydney Catherine had arrived from Cupar in Fife Scotland in 1848 on the Canton. They lived at Balmain Sydney |
| In 1851, John, Catherine & Elizabeth went to San Francisco. John and Catherine returned to Sydney in 1857 and Elizabeth remained. She had married a Thomas Noble and raised her family there. |
| 3 Joseph became a Presbyterian minister and went to Philadelphia USA He married his first wife in Donegal in the 2nd Presbyterian Church on 19th November 1850 (She was Isabella Henry from Donegal whose father Thomas Henry was a saddler) and the witnesses were Robert Scott and Oliver Stewart. He married his 2nd wife in 1864 in Castleblayney Co Monaghan. She was a daughter of Charles Hamilton. Rev Joseph later went to Philadelphia in 1881. He died in 1891 and left a wife and 6 children and was buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery Philadelphia - had preached at Central Presbyterian Church Norristown and Port Carbon in Schuylkill Co Pennsylvania | |

| 4 James 1829 -1859 emigrated to Morpeth NSW Australia in 1849 on the Sea. He was a policeman in Morpeth and married Mary Lapsley from Timahoe, Queens County, Ireland who had come out on the Maria in 1850. He died of Slow Fever in Morpeth |

| 4 William was the son who remained at home and he married Matilda Brown in 1859. He was a Clergyman/Farmer and in 1905 was Rural District Councillor. |

The marriage ceremony was performed in Drumlegagh Presbyterian church by the Reverend Brown, and the witnesses were Samuel Gailey and James McAskie |
| Matilda was the 8th child of David Brown 1771-1861 of Creevy - his parents were David Brown and Arabella White From the Freeholders Register 1829 - David Brown living at Creevy, Ardstraw registered Matilda's mother was Martha Gealy who was one of the Gayley clan which originated in the Isle of Bute off Scotland. | f William James (1868-1937) was a Presbyterian minister - educated QCQ - Queens College Galway, ACB Assembleys College Belfast, BA(RUI)1890; licensed at Strabane 3 May 1893; ordained at Newtonparry (Seskinore) 31 July 1894 - sister, Matilda was his housekeeper - then in 1912 he married Mary Louisa Cargin, daughter of Alexander Cargin, merchant from Dromore and sister of Rev J.A. Cargin of Ballyalbany.

| I have traced a William McCaskie, born Co Tyrone, who emigrated from Liverpool to Philadelphia in 1847. He arrived in April 1847. His age was 25 and filed for naturalisation 29/08/1854. His witness was Thomas Pratt.
From 1860, 2 brothers William C and Robert were living in New York - born Ireland and working as painters. |
