The Allens from Carnkenny Ardstraw Co Tyrone Ireland

James Hood Allen, his wife Mary Wray (Rae or Ray) and their five children James, Jane, Fanny, Mary and Thomas left Ireland mid 1856. They arrived in Sydney December 1856 on board the bark "Dundonald"

Descendants still live in Adelong New South Wales where they settled

The family came from Carnkenny, Ardstraw - near to  Crewe Bridge   Crewe Bridge.

Samuel Allen lived at Carnkenny - he had a house with 8 rooms and there were 5 people

Samuel was a Presbyterian and a farmer and was aged 50. His wife was Joanna, aged 42. There were 2 sisters  Margaret, aged 56 and Sarah aged 56. A servant lived with them

A William Allen born about 1856 lived at Magheralough. He married Lydia McAskie (1842-1915) in  Drumlegagh Presbyterian Church  on 11 Apr 1879. He was a domestic and she was a dressmaker. They had a son William A (1879-1968) and possibly 2 other sons

Lydia was the daughter of Thomas McAskie (1804-1868) and his wife Margaret (1819-1901) also of Magheralough.

Lydia's siblings:-

4 brothers Joseph (known as Joe on the Hill),  James (1841-1891), Gilbert (1853-1933) (known as Galbraith) and Andrew (1858-1918).

3 sisters Jane, Nancy and Rebecca.  Jane married Andrew Kinkead, a carpenter born in Creevy - on 08 Jan 1874 in Drumlegagh Church. Nancy (1843-1914) was the housekeeper. Rebecca (1846-1882) was single and a dressmaker like Lydia
